Aline Fournier Nieckarz was a woman ahead of her time. At a time in the 60's when women did not compete academically with men, she was a role model for women of science when she completed her Doctorate in Organic Chemistry. She was one of only two women in the graduating class of 1967. Fluent in French and German, and with a working understanding of Russian, she had a passion for learning that she passed on to her students. Aline was an active member of the Roncalli Newman Center and was quite involved with Newman student activities. A yearly favorite was an annual Newman fundraising auction. Being gifted at needlepoint, embroidery and quilt making, Aline got many a student involved in quilting for the auction. Those who knew her best say,"She was a source of strength for many of us and was positively influential as a member of the Newman community. She had discovered God's will for her life and passed on her love of the Lord to her family, Newman students and her many friends. She taught us all the precious joy that comes from loving and caring for others."

Keeping in mind that the mission of the Roncalli Newman Center is the spiritual welfare, faith development and the social justice education of Catholic students studying on state campuses, the Anonymous Parishioners' Scholarship (APS) is established by Roncalli Newman Parishioners who wish to say to our Catholic student parishioners, “We are glad you are here.” It is Catholic student presence that gives purpose to the stationary parishioners of the Roncalli Newman Center.
The scholarship is funded anonymously by anyone who wishes to contribute and in any amount.
The purpose of the APS is to provide financial assistance to a student for whom the cost of a college education is a particularly heavy burden. It is available to second year students and above. The application will include, but is not limited to, documentation of a student's financial need, the name of the student’s home parish, a statement of how this scholarship will further the student's college education and a summary of involvement in Newman Catholic Student activities.
The scholarship is available to registered Newman student parishioners who are full-time sophomores, juniors or seniors and is awarded in December. The application deadline for this scholarship is Friday, November 30.
