Readings for today’s Mass
Seen from the perspective of 2000 years, we can say, "Well, sure, he was God." True, but Jesus came so that all of us would share in this authority.
From where do we get this "authority?" We gain it when we walk the talk, when our our actions match our words. That requires that we do what Jesus did -- take time to reflect, pray, and ponder how we're living.
Jeffrey McCollum, director of organizational development for a major healthcare group, remarked, "Leadership (authority) balances what's inside us . . . with what shows up on the outside--our actions. When our actions are balanced and in alignment with our thoughts and values we are acting authentically" and with authority. We will gain Jesus-like "authority" when we take a short time each day to step back and look at how we're walking our talk.
