Thursday, the 6th week of Easter
Mass at 12:nn today
Tho he had no ribbon or catch phrase to accompany the cause, today's St Damian succeeded in raising public awareness throughout the world of Hansen's disease, previously know as leprosy. In his short life, Damian dedicated himself to the care of and the ministry to lepers exiled to colonies in Hawaii. He became the single most effective advocate for getting government funds for caring for those effected by the disease. He would eventually contract leprosy and die from its complication.
Because of his work in spreading the word about leprosy throughout the world, life is so much better for many people, Indeed, Damian went the extra mile to raise awareness of a very good social cause. And that is why we call him Saint.
We are not all destined to be included in the official calendar of saints, but we are all called to try to make a difference. What are you going to do?
