Readings for today’s Mass
The experience is called a retreat because it is a time to step back from the busyness of life and do something that will keep you in touch with things that matter more. It's a time to withdraw and spend quiet time with the Lord. Now and then it's a good idea to step back and reflect.
In today's gospel, Jesus takes a mini, overnight retreat. As you read the passage, you'll see that he just spent time challenging and being challenged by the Pharisees about their understanding of the law. He had to do a lot of that. i expect it made him weary sometimes. Today, he needed to retreat and think things thru. It can be a good way of keeping things in the proper perspective. Even Jesus saw the benefit of a retreat.
When was the last time you took time to step back in order to see things with clearer eyes? For the busy student retreat, only a half hour a day was required. You can do that. Find one half hour today to set aside for the Lord so you might stay closer in touch with the things that really do matter more.
