The story of Fr. Solanus is a good example of how God can work with what some perceive as little to do great things. Because of what was seen as his limitations, Solanus' primary task of 40 plus years was ministry of hospitality at friaries he was assigned to. He tended the front office and answered the door or the phone when people came to call. It was in the context of this humble ministry that his holiness was brought to light. He died in 1957.
Tomorrow, on the Church calendar, we remember the soon-to-be blessed Solanus Casey whose spirituality hinged on the need to express gratitude to God for blessings received. For people of faith and hope, we should always thank God ahead of time, knowing that God will always respond.
