Readings for today’s Mass
As disciples of Jesus, we risk affliction as well from those who don't want to hear the good news. Jesus warned us of that. In three of the four gospels we are admonished: If you're not willing to pick up your cross, don't bother following.
In today's gospel, affliction is the furthest thing on the minds of the disciples. They have just returned to Jesus and are blitzed with joy over their very successful
preaching campaign. i wonder if they remembered Jesus' words then about the cross. i wonder what they learned about Jesus and the Good News when affliction visited their doorstep.
As a follower of Christ, are you ready for affliction? Are you sure you want to pick up your cross in order to follow?
