Saint of the day - The conversion of Paul
Readings for today’s Mass
Paul’s experience was pretty dramatic and life-changing. Now and then i hear of folks who recall the day and even the hour when they experienced a similar kind of 1800 turn-around, instantaneous conversion. Personally, i don’t know anyone who has had such an experience.
For most, conversion is part of a daily prayer; something we work on each day. It’s a process that begins when we decide to be a person of the gospel and, i expect, it will continue to the end of our days. In my case, 1800 turn happens a fraction of a degree at a time. I guess i’m a slow learner. And those times when i fail to live as a gospel person are like back-stepping a degree or two. So each day, with God’s help, i start anew; trusting that, each day, God will strengthen me more for the task. And each day i trust in God’s mercy and forgiveness for when i fall short and back-step. But i also live in hope that one day i will get there. It won’t be as dramatic as was the case with Paul, but it will be just as sure.
How about you? Have you achieved conversion? Are you working on it? Get ready, because, like Paul, your life will never be the same again.
