Readings for today’s Mass
Father, hallowed be your name, This humble beginning of the prayer names the one to whom it is directed and the significance of the name. The Father is holy. We are called to be holy too.
Your Kingdom come. This is a kingdom prepared by the Father; the same kingdom Jesus was always talking about in so many parables. We continue to prepare the kingdom here on earth while we pray for its heavenly coming.
Give us each day our daily bread. Give us what we need to sustain our body and soul as we do the work of building your kingdom. We want to be part of it.
Forgive us our sins. Sometimes we don't live up to being kingdom people. Forgive us when we are not the neighbor of those around us.
For we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us, At least we want to. When we struggle, remind us of your mercy toward us.
Do not subject us to the final test. We know that you would never lead us into temptation, but you have the power and the desire to help us from being tempted away from you.
Whenever you pray the Our Father, take your time. When you ask the Lord to teach you how to pray, this is a really good place to start.
