Readings for today’s Mass
At almost every Mass a Psalm is included in the Liturgy of the Word. Today, it is the beginning of Ps 111 and the congregation's response to each proclamation is How great are the works of the Lord. The verses are filled with someone's feelings of awe at all that God does for the sake of people.
Many of the psalms are poems of joy and gladness. The writer of Ps 139 can't seem to get over the wonder of the human form, how intricately the person is made. The verses of the song you know of as On Eagle's Wings is from Ps 91. Carl Gustav Boberg's hymn, How Great Thou Art, can be prayed as if it was a psalm. And who doesn't know Ps 23?
The writers of the psalms seen to have something for everyone, covering the entire spectrum of human emotions. That is why i think they are a great resource for prayer. The next time you want to pray but you seem a bit empty, Take a look at the psalms. i'll bet you will find something there that will be a good place to start.
