Readings for today’s Mass
Today we celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Today’s feast is NOT about Jesus’ conception but about Mary being conceived without the stain of original sin. How amazing is it that from the moment of Mary’s conception God’s plan was put in place? God knew that a Savior had to come to Earth through a woman and He knew who that most perfect woman would be.
Wouldn’t it be great if our lives were planned out like that? Wait a minute! They are! Mary can be a beautiful example to us of someone who said “yes,” without hesitation to God’s plan. We can learn from her openness and willingness and we can draw closer to her son Jesus through her intercession.
Sometimes, maybe even a lot of times, it is hard to know what God’s plan is. Maybe you are a student struggling right now to find which career choice you are best suited for. Maybe you are a married couple waiting to become parents wondering if it will ever happen. Maybe you are single and trying to discern what life vocation God is calling you too. Wouldn’t it be nice if like Mary, an angel came down from heaven, sat us down and simply TOLD us what was going to happen?
It may not be as obvious or as direct as God’s plan for Mary, but trust and know that God’s plan is at work in your life. You may not discover how His plan is working until much later, maybe you will never know. Know this, as our second reading states, “In him we were also chosen, destined in accord with the purpose of the One who accomplishes all things according to the intention of his will, so that we might exist for the praise of his glory”
He has a plan for you! Take some time this Advent season to sit in the quiet and know that where you are right now is exactly what He has planned for you. Think about the times He was at work in your past and you didn’t even realize it. And know that He has a plan for you future.
