Readings for today’s Mass
This is Paul's battle in today's second reading. When afflicted by a devil's angel and after three times asking God to intervene, God's response is: My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness. Some would say that, with our suffering, God is testing us. i never liked that explanation. As if God doesn't already know our hearts! Paul's explanation is that suffering encourages and motivates us to dig deeper into ourselves and find strength we need to overcome suffering. And we do this by God's abundant grace which is really all we need.
St. Ignatius of Loyola received the same realization in his personal prayer. It is included in his Spiritual Exercises and has become part of daily prayer for countless numbers. Today i offer this prayer of St. Ignatius as something you might make part of your daily devotional.
and my entire will, all that I have and possess.
You have given all to me. To you , O Lord, I return it. All is yours.
Dispose of it wholly according to your will.
Give me your love and your grace, for this is sufficient for me.
