Readings for today’s Mass
In the classic Old Testament tale of Joseph and his brothers we see the jealousy and envy the older brothers have. They desire for themselves the love their father has for his son the dreamer. Perhaps if they would have been less concerned with how to get rid of their brother and focused more on how they could improve themselves the story would have turned out different. The truth is, God gives us all different gifts. He is the master planner. He knows how the gifts He has given us will best benefit the kingdom. It is shameful of us to look upon another person and desire the gifts that they have. Instead we should focus on our own gifts and how we can best use them to serve the Kingdom. The gift of my time and attention to my child was FAR more important than trying to create some perfect birthday party experience.
The next time you find yourself feeling jealous of someone else’s gifts, accomplishment or the life they present on Social media take a step back. Examine the gifts God has given you and ask God to show you how to best use these gifts to serve Him and the Kingdom.
