Today's gospel is suggesting something very similar. It's from Luke's Sermon in the Plain and features blessings and woes that speak to the economic and social conditions of the people of Jesus' time: the poor—the rich; the hungry—the well fed; those grieving—those laughing; the outcast—the socially acceptable.
Throughout the gospels, Jesus is clear that the disparity between the two eco/socio groups does not reflect the values of the Kingdom of God. When we cross over, the Kingdom will be quite different.
How does your life reflect what you believe about the Kingdom of God? As you think about it, do you hear a "blessed are you" or a "woe to you?" It's a rather daunting idea.
Take some time to think about your life. How does it reflect your understanding of the Kingdom of God? As Jesus speaks to the crowds in today's gospel, which group are you in?
