Jesus countered, not to disrespect his mother or himself, but to point to what is more important. While Jesus is blessed as the messenger of the word of God, even more blessed are those who hear his preaching and act accordingly. Truly blessed are those who show mercy to others; those who tend to the needs of the poor and the infirmed. How blessed are those who feed the hungry and visit those in prisons. More blessed, even than the messenger, are those who care for the widows and orphans.
As the Son of God, Jesus knew who he was. How blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord Ps 118:26. Even more so, how blessed are those who hear the word of the Lord and act on it. How are you doing with that?
