Readings for today’s Mass
No noon Mass today
Our days are filled with a lot of noise both from the physical world around us and from the internal workings of our thoughts and hearts. But we, unlike the deaf man in today’s Gospel are able to choose what noises fill our days. What do we choose to listen to both with our ears and our hearts? Have we closed ourselves off to God’s voice echoing in our life? Maybe not all the time but I am sure we can all do better. Notice how Jesus takes the man away from the crowds. Take some time away today to seek out silence from the man made world. Maybe that means taking a walk in nature (without your phone!) and observing the sounds of the natural world. Or maybe that means finding a quiet chapel to just sit in silence. Thoughts might enter in as we sit in contemplation. Acknowledge them, but then let them drift away. As Jesus proclaims, “Be opened!” We won’t be able to hear God’s voice if we aren’t willing to take a break from the things that threaten to choke out the sound of His gentle voice, calling us to good things. Then we too will be filled with the joy that is found in knowing that Christ is Lord and better proclaim it to others.
