Monday, the 7th week of Easter
According to the rules that determined the nominees, it had to be a man who who accompanied us the whole time the Lord Jesus came and went among us, beginning from the baptism of John until the day on which he was taken up from us. Matthias was part of Jesus' entourage from the very beginning of Jesus' public ministry thru his death and resurrection. Thru it all, he was a constant and faithful disciple of Christ.
Another thing we know about Matthias is that he was known to have been a disciple, that he was well known by the assembly and was respected highly enough to be one of the two men nominated to take Judas' place. Clearly, he had a good understanding of Jesus and his vision of church, and was a well rooted believer in his message.
It isn't a lot to go on, is very basis, but it says something important about the guy. Can the same be said of us? Are we consistent followers of Jesus; start to finish? Do we really believe in his vision of the kingdom of God here on earth? How do other people know us as Christians? Is there enough evidence on you to say you really know and love the Lord? Are you chosen to fill the empty place?
