Readings for today’s Mass
Sentenced to death to set us free.
Left alone in the garden to pray,
Not one friend with him would stay.
Blood like sweat upon his brow,
“Father please take this cup from me now.”
“But not my will but yours be done,”
The time is now, the time has come.
Betrayed with a kiss by a friend,
A gentle act that would lead to the end.
Beaten and broken, bloody, near death,
He could barely take one more breath.
A crown of thorns upon his head,
Like a lamb to the slaughter he would be led.
Carrying our sins on his back,
Making up for all that we lack.
Nailed to a tree, hung for death,
Forgiving sins with his final breath.
“It is finished!” He did say,
Darkness descended upon that day.
Hearts were broken, tears were shed.
The temple destroyed just like he said.
The curtain torn into two
He suffered and died, for me, for you.
Her son and their friend now was gone,
But that was Friday, and Sunday would dawn.
