Being rather short herself, my wife has always loved the Zacchaeus story. They share not only their shortness, but also their enthusiasm. Like Zacchaeus, if my dear wife couldn't see Jesus over the shoulders of the crowd, I can just see her looking for some means of going higher. Her enthusiasm is just one of the many things I love about her. Indeed, Jesus loved the enthusiasm of Zacchaeus.
Enthusiasm comes from two words: "en" = inspired by and "theos" = God. Yes, Zacchaeus was a sinner, but in his embrace of Jesus, he repented. He was willing to make things right no matter the personal cost. Jesus loved this and reminds us once again that he came for all of us sinners, the lost souls, if we only open the door of our hearts.
