It seems on all economic levels, even for those doing quite well, there is still something missing. Even wealthy people express their need for more. So today, Jesus offers this: How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!
Why is it that wealth is such a stumbling block in the way of the Kingdom? i suspect it has something to do with the power we give it to save us, to make us happy. Instead of faith in God, we rely on wealth for our daily bread, hoping it will calm our fears and insecurities. How problematic this is because we all know it never works.
You see, we all have an emptiness within that is made only for God. Only God can fill that space. With all we have, we try to fill that space with a lot of stuff that just doesn't fill of fit. And we have an endless supply of stuff to try. Often, it is only when we become exhausted and worn out that we turn to the only one who can fill the space. When we get there, the doors of the kingdom are waiting, open for you. You will be welcomed in, but leave the baggage outside.
