Readings for today’s Mass
In two of today's readings, the word love comes up twenty one times. Never does it describe someone's delight in some material good - someone's new dress, a mountain view, a change in hairstyle, a different halo. Love seems to exclusively refer to one's relationship with God or with other people. Take note from 1 Jn 4: Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God. And from the Gospel of John: As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love. And this; This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends.
Love is a powerful word that describes a powerful emotion between two people. While i greatly enjoy the sunset over the Mississippi River or take delight in a tasty Papa Murphy's pizza, But love, that is reserved for what really matters. Know who you love.
