Readings for today’s Mass
Today we see Jesus in the Gospel making one last ditch effort to turn some of those with the hardest of hearts towards the truth of who he is. Can you imagine how tired and frustrated Jesus must have been? What more did these people want? Wasn’t he fulfilling the prophecy? But they still didn’t recognize him. Yet, we see him do something else. After he escapes the violence his enemies want to place upon him, he returns to where it all began. Where John baptized him and it was revealed that he was son of God.
Perhaps before we begin this final part of our Lenten journey forward into Holy Week it might be good to take a step back. Take a look back and remember where you were almost 40 days ago. How have you been changed? In what areas of your life have you improved? What areas still need work? How have you drawn closer to God? What is still limiting your ability to grow in this relationship? How has God revealed himself in the last 40 days? What new realizations about your faith do you have? Where did you fail to recognize God’s presence in your life?
Now is the time. Bring your struggles, your hurts of the journey and leave them at the foot of the cross. Rejoice in the ways he has brought you closer to him and closer to the celebration and joy of the resurrection.
