Readings for today’s Mass
In yesterday's gospel, Jesus seems to be opening the door for sinners to also be part of the kingdom. Those who disobey, he said, will be known in the kingdom as the least; while those who obey will be known as the greatest in the kingdom.
What's going on? Is Jesus getting soft? I surely hope so.
A few months after his election, Pope Francis was asked in an interview: Who is Jorge Mario Bergoglio? After a moment's reflection, the Pope answered: I am a sinner. I am sure of this. I am a sinner whom the Lord looked upon with mercy. I still make mistakes and commit sins, and I confess every fifteen or twenty days. I am a forgiven man.
I like this Pope a lot. At 82 years and as the leader of the Catholic world, Francis humbly acknowledges that he is still a disobedient servant. "I am a sinner." But he also knows that will not keep him out of the kingdom. "I am a forgiven man."
Like Francis, i, too, am a sinner. i may never get it right, and everyone in the Kingdom of Heaven will know it, but i'm still going in.
