Homeless people have precious little to lose. What little they have, they easily and freely share. If they lend something and never get it back, it's because someone else needed it. Those not so needy tend to hang on to what they've earned. They work hard and should enjoy the fruits of their labor.
But as you know, that is not the way of the kingdom: go and sell what you have and give it to the poor. Everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters
or father or mother or children or lands for the sake of my name will receive a hundred times more, and will inherit eternal life. (Mt 19:29)
Peter told Jesus they had given it all up for the cause. they've sacrificed everything. but he wants to know what's in it for them. Jesus responded: The kingdom. Eternal life. That's what's in it for you if you dare to follow.
What are you willing to lose to gain the kingdom? How far down are you willing to go to be lifted high? In this case, the measuring stick is the eye of a needle.
