Readings for today’s Mass
I suspect that’s what Simon Peter's reaction was when Jesus seemed to have a hand in providing a huge catch of fish. Simon knew he was in the presence of greatness and humbled himself in fear, asking Jesus to leave him - For I am a sinful man. And Jesus reassured him, Do not be afraid.
Do you ever hear those words when you are faced with a challenge "Do not be afraid for I am with you.” These words, as they appear throughout the Old and New Testaments, are always offered to reassure someone of God’s presence, good will and intentions.
The next time you find yourself in a situation of challenge, take time to quiet yourself so you might be intent to listen for this same assurance. God still speaks to us today, but we only hear it if we listen. Take some time today to listen. And do not be afraid.
