Readings for today’s Mass
The reality of our mortality isn’t always at the forefront of our mind. We go about our daily lives, work, school, chores doing what needs to get done. We grocery shop, take our children to sport practices, go out to dinner with friends all of it without a second thought to when it might end. For most of us we hopefully will live a long full life. We won’t be as fortunate as Hezekiah to have insight into when our time will come. However, like Hezekiah we do have an opportunity each and every day to try and live a life worthy of Christ. Will we fail? Sure. But our God, as we see in the first reading and throughout scripture, is a God of Mercy. We may not know the day or the hour when our time here on Earth will expire and we most likely won’t get a “second chance” or fifteen more years like Hezekiah did. Yet each day we can renew our faithfulness to God and live our life according to his will. Cherish each day, take nothing for granted, and live a life reflective of God’s love and mercy.
