Readings for today’s Mass
Love of God is something radically different. Instead of excluding others, it includes others. Instead of rejecting others as less valuable, it accepts others in their own uniqueness. It is not competitive, but os a compassionate choice.”
To live as God intended us to live comes down to making the choice to love. Love of God calls us to something greater and to a deeply profound love of others. Our first reading speaks to this: Above all, let your love for one another be intense, because love covers a multitude of sins.
To live this way is a challenge that goes against what our society and culture tell us we need to do in order to be successful and to find happiness.
The same was true for the early Christians as our first reading describes: Beloved, do not be surprised that a trial by fire is occurring among you, as if something strange were happening to you. But rejoice to the extent that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealed you may also rejoice exultantly.
Let us rise to the challenge to love others in this way. Let us live our lives worthy of Christ and turn to him in prayer when this challenge seems to great.
