Readings for today’s Mass
With that, Moses summed up the terms of the great covenant. As recorded in the Torah, this involves over 600 laws. But recall the capstone of it all from last week’s reading from Leviticus: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
In another of his “you have heard it said” lessons, today Jesus again tweaks the law to a higher standard. “You have heard it said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you.”
Doesn’t that raise the bar? How are you doing with that? Is there someone you could be praying for today? Take some time to do a little inventory of your relationships. Anyone on that list that needs prayer and loving? How about you do something about it.
