Saint of the day - The Assumption of Mary
Readings for today’s Mass
Sometimes, our approach to Mary in prayer and devotion appears to some as worship, something our critics fault us with for having raised Mary to the level of being deity. Of course, we know this is not the case. Even as the mother of Jesus, the mother of God, she was just a person; a very special person with a very special vocation.
Today we celebrate Mary in the feast of her assumption into Heaven. The feast tells us that, because of her very special role as a woman of faith here on earth, she merits a special place in heaven with her son, Jesus.
So, as you venerate the memory of Mary in the Feast of the Assumption, as you invite her to pray with you in your time of need, keep in mind that we do so as we do with all of our holy dead. Mary would have is no other way than to give glory to God.
